Spring has arrived, and along with melting ice, flowers and songbirds, comes baseball season in North Carolina. In less than two weeks, you and your family can begin enjoying “America’s favorite pastime” under an evening sky…hot dogs, peanuts and Crackerjacks in hand.
Here is a quick rundown of our state’s minor league teams and schedule of their opening home games.
The Charlotte Knights, a farm team for the Chicago White Sox, will open its season at its new home stadium BB&T Ballpark, on Friday, April 11 at 7:05 pm.
The Greensboro Grasshoppers (a Florida Marlins farm team) has its opener at downtown Greensboro’s NewBridge Bank Park, on Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 pm.
The Winston-Salem Dash (a Chicago White Sox farm team) also has its home opener on Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 pm, at beautiful BB&T Park in Winston-Salem.
Tampa Bay Rays farm team The Durham Bulls, also has its opener Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 pm, at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
You’ll find two more teams having their season openers Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 pm — Zebulon’s Carolina Mudcats (at Five County Stadium) and The Asheville Tourists, at McCormick Field. The Hickory Crawdads have their home opener at Crawdad Stadium on Thursday, April 10 at 7:00 pm and the Burlington Royals have theirs a little later — June 25 at 7:00 pm at Burlington Athletic Stadium.
